BIOGRAPHY
Colin Hart Robinson was born in Isfahan, Iran, in 1976 to his American parents who were living and working there until the family had to flee in 1979 because of the Iranian Revolution. Colin grew up in the suburbs of Long Island and became interested in art as a high school student.
Colin’s passion for art grew and he began to see himself as an art maker while taking foundation classes at The University of Hartford and then during a summer studying sculpture abroad in Cortona, Italy. Colin recounts a defining and transcendental experience he had while walking down a hill in the midday Tuscan heat, there through the open doorway of an old tin shack, Colin spotted a young man in the dim light, painting in solitude like some ascetic figure. Colin recalls the striking spiritual romanticism of that instance as the moment he decided to dedicate his life to painting. Upon returning from Italy in 1997 Colin transferred to S.U.N.Y. Purchase College where he graduated two years later with a BFA in Painting. Since leaving college in 1999, Colin has directed his energy full time to his art and to the development of a very large, investigative body of paintings with a colorful vernacular of his own.
In his decades-spanning practice thus far Colin Robinson, an extremely dedicated and prolific painter, has investigated at length, a variety of approaches to answer a single question, (How does one make a painting?), ever seeking to be more clear and honest and free about the answer. Recently Colin has emerged from a four year hiatus, taken to regain perspective and reflect on his life and direction as a painter. He now resides and paints at his home by the ocean in the City of Long Beach, N.Y.. There he is working to complete a new and unique, defining body of paintings, that consolidates the efforts of his exploratory years.
